Malaga city is perfect for adventurers, in recent years it has fully embraced cycling. There were times when cycling in the city was done only by the braves who didn’t mind risking their lives. As cycling required limb dodging high-speed traffic of the Malaga’s street, therefore, it wasn’t easy. However, gone are those days and now people are riding around bikes and talking about cycling or thinking to start it as cycling lanes are popping up everywhere.

People cannot be blamed for it since there are about 320 days of sunshine in Malaga as well as the best temperature in Europe, therefore a lot of people consider cycling as a means of transport.

Plan Andaluz de la Bicicleta – Andalusian Cycling Plan:

Bug plans are being made to extend cycle lanes in Andalusia. The government has led the plan Andaluza de la Bicicleta which will connect the provincial capitals of Andalucia including Algeciras and Jerez. People will be able to cycle from Granada to Cadiz. The network is 3080 km and a lot of it is already in used by rural lanes and cattle trails.

A little maintenance and signposting are required on it. There are more inter-urban cycle paths being established in conjunction with this regional development. The estimated cost is around 403.8 million euros.

New cycle routes for Malaga province:

The plan is to establish a network of 115 km connecting the coastal stretch through Rincon de la Victoria and Fuengirola while establishing two inland links between Cartama –Technological Park and Alhaurin de la Torre-Churriana-Costa. Now, there is more than 30 km of cycle lanes while more are being added every day. However, the city centre has about 7.5 km of lanes.

Though many main parts of Malaga are dedicated to pedestrians, however, touring Malaga by bike is a wonderful way to see the main highlights. Many companies offer bicycle rentals, guided tours and more where Malaga Bici program is very famous with the locals.
